The Riches That Ransom

“The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, But the poor does not hear rebuke.” – ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13‬:‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“The ransom of a man’s life is his riches…”

Jesus is the riches of the ransomed. Jesus is the living, life giving Word of God, found in reading and following the written Word of God. He gave all so that we who actively believe may be saved. That is rich, indeed. Though we may never be rich according to this world’s standards, the ransomed in Christ are eternally rich, being heirs with Christ as the children of God. (Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭16‬-‭21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ – https://bible.com/bible/114/rom.8.17-21.NKJV)

“…But the poor does not hear rebuke.”

This Living Word of God, Christ, found in the written Word of God, is living and active, sharper than a double edged sword, piercing the greatest depths of our being, killing the flesh man in us so the spirit (eternal) man may live ‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭12‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ – https://bible.com/bible/100/heb.4.12.NASB1995).

This Word from God found in Holy Scripture “is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” (‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬ – https://bible.com/bible/100/2ti.3.16-17.NASB1995).

The Word of God is His tool for training His children in righteousness: teaching, instructing, and disciplining those He loves. God’s discipline brings us to repentance that changes us to live, be, and look like Him. His loving discipline, received and acted on, proves we are children of God: and if children, heirs with Christ, making us rich, indeed. God’s Word, training, teaching, rebuking, and disciplining us, when received and followed, reveals that we love God, being people who know Him as Father.

“…For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin; and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, Nor faint when you are reproved by Him; For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, And He scourges every son whom He receives.” It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. … Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.”
