“The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade on your right hand.” Psalms 121:5 NASB
The Storm Pilot painting by Stephen Sawer is my all time favorite. God directs our course and sees us safely to the other side of life’s storms. That is what it calls me to remember, trust, and believe. In the painting, Jesus is depicted pointing the way to go with his right hand of authority while keeping his beloved charge at His protective left.
Scripture gives the clear impression that God is right handed with His sword of protection and power of authority. He places us on His right when we have a part in the fight and authority to represent His interests.
At His left hand, He covers us with His shield of protection and seats us where all we are to do is be still and know that He is God.
Jesus, our example for life, walked with full assurance and understanding that He had complete authority in the Father for the ministry and purpose of His calling. He also walked fully assured of God’s simultaneous, protective cover, keeping Him secure to the completion of His course. When Jesus successfully completed His purpose, God, the Father seated Him as King of kings on His right side, signifying His full authority flowing through Christ.
I believe, in likeness to Christ, we can have this same faith. Has God called you to a purpose? At His right hand you are authorized to fulfill it. Has He pointed the course ahead of you? Humble yourself with full assurance that He, who is God, will guard each step to the finish as you carry out His directives and trust His mighty hand.
